Troops foil robbery attempts, rescue abducted travellers in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 under Operation Whirl Stroke, have foiled a robbery attempt, rescuing abducted travellers, and recovering illegal arms in separate missions across Taraba State.
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, disclosed this in Jalingo.
He noted that the operations were carried out between 6 and 7 December 2025 in Manya, Kufai Amadu, and Garin Sambo in Takum Local Government Area.
He disclosed that the troops deployed at Manya swiftly responded to a distress call, after armed robbers barricaded the Manya–Takum Road and began dispossessing travellers.
The soldiers immediately launched a rapid clearance operation, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon their weapons.
The Army spokesperson added that items recovered at the scene of the robbery attempts included one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
He also disclosed that the troops, in another operation on 7 December, at Kufai Amadu rescued two kidnapped travellers abducted in Amadu Town while travelling from Bauchi State to Baissa in Kurmi Local Government Area.
The victims, he explained, were unfamiliar with the area, and got attacked after stopping to ask for directions.
“Following an aggressive search-and-rescue mission, two of the abducted men, identified as Yusuf Musa and Muhammed Umar, were found after escaping from captivity,” he said
Lieutenant Umar stated further that efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining victims, Musa Danji and Yusuf, as troops continued to comb surrounding forests and track the suspects.
He said on 6 December, the troops, acting on intelligence report raided Garin Sambo in Tau Village, Ardo Kola local government area and during the operation, two pump action rifles, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles and four mobile phones were recovered, with the suspects arrested.
The Army spokesperson revealed that Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda were arrested and currently being investigated.
