Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected terrorists, arrested eight suspected collaborators and rescued a kidnapped victim in Kaduna and Zamfara states.
The troops also recovered 110 rustled cattle during coordinated operations conducted between June 27 and 28.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
He said troops, supported by members of the vigilante group, encountered terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles in Giwa and Kaduna North local government areas of Kaduna State.
Following a gun battle, the terrorists abandoned two motorcycles and fled into the bush. The troops rescued one kidnapped victim alive, while another victim was found dead.
Danja said troops later responded to a terrorist attack on Dariya village in Giwa LGA, where one civilian was killed and three others injured before security personnel arrived.
He said the troops pursued the attackers, intercepted them on motorcycles and killed two terrorists during a firefight. One motorcycle, ammunition, charms and other items were recovered.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 arrested two suspects in Magami, Gusau Local Government Area, for allegedly providing medical support to terrorist groups.
Similarly, troops of Sector 1 arrested six suspects around Polewire village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State after encountering fleeing terrorists during a patrol.
The suspects are currently under investigation.
Danja added that troops, working with local vigilantes, also recovered 110 rustled cattle after laying an ambush for suspected rustlers in Ungwan Gora bush, Chikun Local Government Area. The cattle have since been returned to their owners.
He reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
