Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have neutralised eight suspected terrorists and recovered two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles during an ambush operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Army said the operation followed credible intelligence that terrorists allegedly loyal to a notorious kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki, were planning to block the Kakumi to Guga Road and attack unsuspecting commuters.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Abayomi Adisa, the security forces acted swiftly by laying an ambush along the route.
“The operation was conducted following credible intelligence that terrorists, allegedly loyal to a notorious kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki, were planning to block the Kakumi to Guga Road and attack unsuspecting commuters,” Adisa said.

He explained that the troops engaged the terrorists, who were travelling on five motorcycles, resulting in the death of eight of the suspects.
Adisa added that troops subsequently searched the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles and the five motorcycles used by the terrorists adding that the recovered weapons and motorcycles had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Division in Bakori for further investigation and necessary action.
He further disclosed that intelligence reports indicated that the terrorists were planning retaliatory attacks on residents of Kakumi, Guga, Unguwan Dan Shuni, Kwai and other neighbouring communities in Bakori LGA.
“Troops deployed at the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Ruwan Godiya and Mabai have intensified aggressive patrols and area domination operations along suspected routes leading to the affected communities, in order to deny the criminals freedom of action and protect law-abiding residents,” he said.
He added that security forces were closely monitoring the situation and remained on high alert to prevent further attacks in the area.
