Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 27 kidnapped victims, foiled fresh abduction attempts and recovered livestock as well as three motorcycles during separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The operations, carried out between July 20 and 21, targeted suspected terrorists operating in parts of Shagari and Rabah local government areas of Sokoto State and along the Gummi–Sokoto road.
A statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops of the Forward Operating Bases in Shagari and Sifawa acted on credible intelligence on July 20 and swiftly moved to Wanke and Kaura communities in Shagari Local Government Area following reports of terrorist activities.
He said the troops encountered the terrorists at Kaura community and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to flee.

According to him, six kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation, while livestock and two motorcycles were also recovered. The victims were later reunited with their families.
Danja said in a separate operation on the same day, troops operating in Gandi, Rabah LGA in collaboration with the State Security Community Guard Corps, rescued 10 kidnap victims who had escaped from their abductors and were found wandering in the bush around Badanma community in Gandi area of Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
He said the rescued victims, comprising men, women and children, were handed over to community leaders before being reunited with their families.
The military spokesman further said that on July 21, troops of Combat Team 12 responded to a distress call after suspected terrorists blocked the Gummi–Sokoto road in an attempt to abduct commuters.
He said the troops engaged and pursued the attackers, rescuing 11 kidnapped persons and recovering one motorcycle during the operation.
Danja commended the troops for what he described as their vigilance, professionalism and swift response in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims.
He also appreciated members of the public for providing credible information to security agencies and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting ongoing operations aimed at degrading terrorist and criminal networks across the North West.
