Truck kills one in Anambra on boxing day
A speeding truck has crushed a pedestrian to death in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state on the boxing day.

A speeding truck has crushed a pedestrian to death in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state on boxing day.
An eyewitness said the driver of the IVECO Truck identified as Mr Chika Emmanuel Nwagu with registration number EPE 39 XT was speeding, lost control and knocked down the pedestrian crossing the road near Ihiala Local Government head quarters of the state.

“The crash was as a result of speeding and lost of control,” the eyewitness said.
Confirming the accident, the spokesman for the Anambra State Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Edor, said the crash involved three male adults on board.
“The driver of the IVECO Truck was later arrested and handed over to the police after a timely tip-off to the Military by FRSC Rescue team from Ihiala command.
“The knocked down pedestrian was taken to Our Lady’s of Lourdes hospital by the FRSC rescue team from Ihiala Command, and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“The body has been deposited at the mortuary,” he said.
According to her, the Sector Commander Corps Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, has condoled with the deceased’s family.
He said Kumapayi has also urged motorists to avoid speeding in built up areas, saying that the maximum speed limit in an urban area remains 50km/hour.
“It is advisable to use less speed or common sense speed while in a build up areas in order to ensure safety on the road users.
“Speed thrills but kills. Drive save, Stay save,” he said
