The world is repeating an 80-year old mistake. It turned the the blind when it should have stopped Adolf Hitler. The world knew the German Fuhrer was a ticking bomb yet it chose to appease him. Adolf Hitler talked tough at campaign rallies, whipped up sentiments at every given opportunity and took hate speech to a new dizzying height. Today, the world is turning the blind eye as Mr. Donald Trump threatens to take the world to the brink.
Mind you, Adolf Hitler was not a coup plotter in the manner of soldiers snatching power at gun point. He was not a bush fighter who led a rag-tag army to chase away a constitutionally elected government in Berlin. No! Power did not simply drop on Hitler’s laps like manna from heaven: he was a product of the much-vaunted liberal democracy of the West that lays so much emphasis on the ballot box. Hitler campaigned vigorously, contested elections and bested some of the most formidable politicians of the era. 
Just as Mr. Donald Trump is campaigning vigorously! Hitler had the gift of oratory. He appealed to the superiority of the Aryan race and let Germans believe they were created to be the light of the world. The world watched as Hitler polluted the mind of his Germans. Mr. Trump has proved to be a good student of the Fuhrer; he wants America for Americans! Aside polluting minds, Mr. Trump has extended a blank cheque to his supporters to punch faces and kick asses of those who do not want their minds to be polluted. What is more, the big brat has pledged to pick the legal bills accruing there-from. Hugh!
Interestingly, many believe nothing should be done to abridge Mr. Trump’s right of free speech. In essence, all the American establishment and, by extension, the world, can do is to appease Mr. Trump, not oppose him, in his quest to take the world to the brink. One up for freedom of speech! In the late 1920’s, there were many within and outside Germany who knew Hitler was a ticking bomb but felt restrained by what some thought was unfair treatment of Germany after 1918. In defence of freedom of speech, the world opted to appease Hitler and, as it turned out, appeasement became the worst mistake the allied powers made in the inter-war years.
Today, a potentially catastrophic appeasement policy that could turn WWII into a tea party is on display. Most Republican Americans are happy listening to the voice of Mr. Trump whose tough talk and hate speeches resonates around the world. Curiously, Mr. Trump is leading the pack in the race for the presidential ticket of the Republican Party even though the prospect of his eventual emergence as presidential nominee has jolted party leaders into action. It is heart-warming to note that frantic efforts are on to stop Mr. Trump before he stops the world.
Mr. Trump must be a great American patriot! Aside this, he is rich, talks tough and cares no hoot that smiling could be therapeutic. His dour nature, the lack of mirth in his smile whenever he chooses to flash one and his gung-ho outlook makes him the spokesperson of the endangered American extreme far-right! What is more, the man has been endorsed by the white supremacist group, ominously called Ku Klux Klan! Just as his KKK backers, Mr. Trump is a poor student of history.
It is even more intriguing that Mr. Trump does not even seem to know that beyond the challenge of global terrorism, the world is getting safer and more Americans believe the world is capable of taking more steps away from the precipice.
Being the American patriot that he is, Mr. Trump has vowed to restore what he calls America’s lost glory if he gets elected in November. Whatever it means, Mr. Trump belongs to the twisted school of thought that believes America is not and, cannot be like other countries! And, to make that meaningful, he will, within hours of being inaugurated, throw Muslims out of America, banish Muslims from entering the United States of America and throw out African immigrants especially those from Nigeria because they have taken over jobs meant for Americans.
Strangely, the patriot in Mr. Trump does not even make him realise that the African immigrants he seeks to throw out are products of the normally-high American spirit of competitiveness. And, for a man who made his millions from the sweat of Hispanics, the very idea of Mr. Trump erecting a wall, ala Israel, on the border with Mexico and to be fully paid for by the Mexican government, as a way of stopping Hispanics from entering the United States of America is disingenuous!
There is the temptation to dismiss Mr. Trump as a disgruntled, bigmouthed American who has seized the opportunity of the campaigns to vent his bottled-up anger. Otherwise, no serious politician in today’s supposedly civilised and liberal America will glamourise hate speech and display unrestrained love for impunity. Aside the famed American system that has a way of fencing controversial individuals from the White House, it is about time psychiatry tests became a major requirement for US presidential candidates.
America and the rest of the world do want a man who cannot take his hands off the nuclear buttons in the White House.
And, by the way, does Mr. Trump even realise that a safe America translates into a safer world?
