Trump fires Tillerson, appoints CIA director Pompeo as Secretary of State

Today the US President Donald Trump sacked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, replacing him with the CIA director, Mike Pompeo.


US Vice President Mike Pence in a series of tweets said “Pompeo is a man of highest integrity with unquestionable qualifications who will do an outstanding job.”

While US president Donald Trump says Pompeo will do a “fantastic job”.

His tweet reads “Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!”


Daily Trust had reported that Tillerson
was in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Monday, where he pledged the support of the US in securing the quick release of the Dapchi and remaining Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists.

He was initially slated to spend the night in the Nigerian capital but his visit was cut short, owing to what his spokesman said were pressing engagements in Washington D.C.
