An Islamic movement, Al‑Harakatul‑Islamiyyah (The Muslim Ummah), has condemned recent U.S. military action in Nigeria, warning that continued foreign intervention could have “catastrophic consequences” for the nation’s sovereignty and security.

In a statement signed by the group’s Ameer, Mallam Abdur‑Razzaq Abdulwahhab Al‑Ameen Aladodo, the organisation criticised claims linked to United States President Donald Trump alleging genocide against Christians in Nigeria, which were cited to justify U.S. airstrikes in Sokoto State in December 2025.

The strikes were described by U.S. authorities as counter‑terrorism operations coordinated with Nigerian security agencies.

The group said while some Nigerians welcomed the intervention, many remain unaware of its broader implications.

It cited historical U.S. actions in countries such as Panama, Libya, Iraq, Sudan, and Syria, arguing these interventions were driven by economic and political interests rather than humanitarian concerns.

Al‑Harakatul‑Islamiyyah also warned that foreign powers often exploit religious and ethnic divisions to justify military involvement and could replicate such patterns in Nigeria, a country rich in oil and other resources.

The statement highlighted the risks of further destabilisation, urging Nigerians, both Christians and Muslims, to reject external interference.

“U.S. military attacks do not recognise religion,” the statement said, emphasising that foreign involvement could undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and endanger innocent citizens.

The movement reaffirmed its opposition to any attempts to compromise the country’s integrity and pledged to defend national interests against perceived external aggression.
