TUC faults proposed ban of yellow buses in Lagos

The Lagos chapter of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has  faulted Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s plan to remove yellow buses from Lagos highways.

The union in a statement signed by its Secretary, Comrade Francis Ogunremi, and General Secretary, Ekundayo Gbenga said banning the buses  without any concrete plan for those that would be affected by the development  would add to the current state of massive unemployment and recession. 

The statement reads in part: ‘’It is an open invitation to anarchy; hunger and starvation; armed robbery and banditry; kidnapping, sadistic behaviors, mental disorders, sexual violence, etc.’’ 

The union urged all the stakeholders in the state to prevail on Lagos State government to have a rethink and adopt a far more holistic and balanced approach to the development of the state.

Besides, the union said the proposed introduction of new state- of- the- art buses must go through a very transparent arrangement, for transport companies to offer their services to commuters in the mega city of Lagos.
