President of the Congress, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama, in his recent May Day message, said the incoming administration can actualize this by creating the enabling environment in the country.
He also charged the incoming government to avoid this waterloo of sending people to the labour market, and be creative in resolving economic crisis in the country.
He implored the government to stop the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) from carrying out its threat of throwing over a thousand staff into the labour market.
He further tasked the incoming government to address the issue of contract awards and abandoned projects in the construction industry, saying the workers are at the receiving end of government’s failure to deliver its financial obligations to contractors.
“This unsavoury situation can and should be avoided through the speedy settlement of the huge debts owed companies and by ensuring that adequate funds are set aside for future projects. In particular, billions of contracts have again been awarded to companies by the current administration,” he said.
While decrying the meagre monthly national minimum wage of ₦18,000 approved in 2011, he called for the cut in salaries and allowances of lawmakers by 60 percent, asking “why should any of them continue to receive over N40 million every quarter while many workers are denied the N18, 000 monthly minimum wage?’’
