The Lagos State chapter of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria(TUC), has hailed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode over the establishment of Ministry of Wealth Creation and Empowerment in the state.
Chairman of the Congress, Comrade Akeem Kazeem, who said the development will impact positively on the lives of the citizens, also advised the governor to appoint personal assistant or consultant on labour matters in his cabinet.
He urged the governor to sustain the tempo he has used in clearing all outstanding arrears of retirees’ entitlement following his recent release of N11billion.
He said: “Labour is also in support of the on-going restructuring in the state civil service. Round pegs are being put in round holes. Merit and excellence is now recognized and put into consideration in appointments in the state’’.
He also said the recent advertisement for job placement for teachers and surveyors in the state is a positive step to reduce unemployment in the country, and urged the federal government to emulate the gesture of Governor Ambode. “We commend the good works being done in the area of security and the marginal improvement noticed on power supply, particularly in Lagos state. This trend should be sustained and improved upon,’’ he said.
