The countdown has begun for a landmark event set to reshape the agricultural sector in Ibarapa Land, as Engr. Tunde Bello, in collaboration with Seyi Tinubu, prepares to launch the ETB/ST Empowerment Program on February 20, 2025.
Speaking at a pre-event briefing, Engr. Tunde Bello emphasized the urgent need to harness the town’s vast agricultural potential. He described the initiative as a crucial step toward revitalizing the local economy through targeted investments and strategic empowerment of farmers.
“Igbo-Ora has long been known for its fertile soil and rich farming heritage, yet we have not fully maximized the opportunities agriculture presents,” Bello stated. “This program is designed to bridge that gap by equipping our farmers with the necessary tools, knowledge, and access to investment opportunities.”
The program, which has already generated excitement among local farmers and stakeholders, will feature a series of lectures, exhibitions, and empowerment initiatives. Participants will receive essential agricultural tools such as knapsack sprayers and chemicals to enhance productivity. Additionally, experts in agribusiness will engage with farmers, offering insights into modern farming techniques and sustainable practices.
A key aspect of the initiative is its focus on attracting investors to Igbo-Ora. “We want to position this region as a key agricultural hub, not just for Oyo State but for Nigeria as a whole,” Bello added. “With the right investment, Igbo-Ora can contribute significantly to national food production and economic growth.”
Local farmers have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism about its potential impact. Alhaji Kareem Adebayo, a cassava farmer in the region, noted that access to better tools and investment would boost productivity and improve livelihoods. “This is what we have been waiting for. We have the land, we have the labor, now we need the support,” he said.
As anticipation builds, the ETB/ST Empowerment Program is being hailed as a transformative step toward repositioning Igbo-Ora as a leading agricultural powerhouse. With the combined efforts of government agencies, private investors, and local farmers, the event is expected to set the stage for long-term agricultural and economic prosperity in the region.
