Residents of Tunga Wakili have appealed to the area council authorities to provide a primary healthcare centre in the community. 

The head of the community in Jiwa Ward, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mohammad Daudu, said residents suffer more hardship taking sick people to Kubwa General Hospital several kilometres from the community. 

Daudu said conveying sick people to Kubwa costs more than N750 without adding the cost of medical care at the hospital. 

He said due to the prevailing economic condition, residents do not have an option than going to Kubwa because most private hospitals in the community charged exorbitantly. 

“Private hospitals are costly, so we have to run to Kubwa General Hospital,” he said adding that in some cases, residents depended on medical aid and screening from private organisations and non-governmental organisations.  

Esiri Eric, a representative of Power Oil, who was in the community conducting medical screening on the residents, said the company was moved to embark on the medical examination to meet the needs of the residents. 

“The idea is to inform and enlighten them on what to eat and do in order to guard against high cholesterol in their bodies,” he said. 

He added that some routine medical checks were conducted on the residents while some of the company’s products were also shared. 

A resident, Dalibu Rabe, was concerned about the rate of theft in the community and appealed for the intervention of relevant security agencies.
