The Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed against the recent verdict of the Court of Appeal in Abuja seeking to stop the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike-led faction from organising the national convention of the party fixed for March 29 and 30.

In the appeal before the Supreme Court, the Turaki-led faction is seeking an injunction pending appeal restraining Wike and other factional members from acting on the decision of the Court of Appeal on March 9 in appeal number: CA/ABJ/CV/1613/2025, which affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja of October 31, 2025, restraining the party from organising the party’s national convention, including that slated for March 29 and 30 or “any other date or venue, at the instance of 5th and 6th Respondents herein or howsoever through their agents or principal, or in the name of the 1st Appellant, pending the hearing and determination of the appellants/applicants’ appeal at the Supreme Court.”

The appellate court had on March 9 held that it was wrong for the party to have proceeded with the convention in Ibadan, Oyo State on November 15, 2025 despite a subsisting order not to go ahead until conditions set by the Federal High Court were complied.

The judgement followed an appeal challenging the orders of two Federal High Courts in Abuja that had last year declared the convention as invalid for not complying with the party’s internal rules.

The PDP has been divided into two factions with the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki faction loyal to the PDP governors and the Abdulrahman Muhammed faction loyal to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. 

The decision to file the suit came after the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting held by the Turaki faction on Friday.

The group is seeking an order of injunction pending appeal, restraining all the Respondents, from giving effect to or acting on the decision of the Court of Appeal dated 9th March, 2026, which affirmed the decision of Federal High Court, delivered in Abuja on the 31st of October, 2025. 

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the National Executive Committee, comprising of National Working Committee (NWC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) had an emergency meeting and ratified its resolution to approach the Supreme Court to contest the judgment of the Appeal Court. 

The party also dissociated itself from the convention of the Wike-led group. 

Addressing journalists, National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the latest development was coming amidst proposed move by both warring factions to explore reconciliation, a pact which they had at different fora promised to embrace.

Before now, at a meeting held on Wednesday, the Turaki-led group expressed openness to reconciliation, noting that talks were already yielding positive signals toward a possible truce.
