Today, September 21, 2024, the ancient city of Katsina will witness a grand spectacle as Honourable Jabiru Salisu Tsauri is officially turbaned as the pioneer Lamidon Katsina.
Friends, family, dignitaries and well-wishers will gather to celebrate a man whose life has been marked by service, dedication and a relentless pursuit of excellence. This momentous occasion will not only honour his personal achievements but also recognise his contributions to public service, governance, education and diplomacy.
Life of a humble leader
Born on March 3, 1968, in the historic town of Tsauri, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri’s journey reflects a life of academic excellence and continuous personal development. His primary education began at the then Tsauri Primary School (now Tsauri Model Primary School) in 1974, where his exceptional talents quickly marked him out as one of the few pupils selected for advanced studies at the prestigious Katsina Teachers College. There, he embarked on his journey into the noble profession of teaching, gaining the foundational skills that would later shape his career in public service.

Driven by a voracious thirst for knowledge, Tsauri pursued further studies at the College of Education Kafanchan, where he earned his National Certificate in Education (NCE). However, his ambition did not stop there. Recognising the importance of continuous learning, he enrolled at the Bayero University Kano, where he obtained his first degree. His academic journey culminated in a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2009, positioning him as an expert in global affairs.

Career steeped in public service
Honourable Jabiru Salisu Tsauri’s dedication to public service began in the field of education. From 1989 to 2003, he worked as a classroom teacher at Government Secondary School (GSS) Malumfashi, where he taught Geography and Applied Science. Not only did he serve as the Head of Geography Department, but he was also recognised as a Social Master, overseeing students’ extracurricular engagements. His work as an educator left a lasting impact on his students and colleagues alike, earning him respect as a mentor and leader.
His journey into public administration began with an appointment as Special Assistant to the Senate Committee Chairman on Rules and Business from 2003 to 2007. Over the next decade, Hon. Jabiru Tsauri would hold several key positions in the Nigerian Senate, including Special Assistant to the Senate Committee Chairman on Defence and Army (2007-2011) and Special Assistant to the Senate President (2011-2015). His expertise in legislative affairs and governance solidified his standing as a trusted adviser and a man of great integrity.
In 2018, Hon. Jabiru Tsauri’s leadership abilities were recognised and appreciated when he was appointed the sole administrator of Kurfi Local Government Area, a role in which he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his constituents. His business acumen was also highlighted during his tenure as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Orange Groove Hotel, a venture that showcased his versatility and commitment to excellence in all endeavours.
He played a pivotal role as Deputy Director General of the Dikko/Tinubu Campaign Organisation in the 2023 elections and later served as a key member of the Katsina State Transition Committee. His influence on both local and national levels of governance has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political landscape.

In recognition of his exemplary service and leadership, Tsauri was honoured with the title of Garkuwan Maradin Katsina by the District Head of Kurfi. This prestigious title, meaning “Shield of the People,” symbolises his role as a protector and leader of his community.
In addition to this distinguished honour, the Emir of Katsina bestowed upon him the grand title of Lamidon Katsina in March 2024. The turbaning ceremony today, September 21st will formally recognise him as the pioneer holder of this prestigious title, a role that carries immense responsibility and embodies the values of leadership, wisdom, and service to the people of Katsina.

Honourable Tsauri’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming the Chief of Staff at the Katsina State Government House is a testimony to his dedication, intellect, and service to his people.
