Turkey to establish training centre in Kano

The Kano state government has reached an agreement with the Republic of Turkey for the establishment of a vocational training centre for the purpose of training students in the state.

A statement from the office of Kano state deputy governor, signed by Balarabe Abdullahi, said the state’s Deputy Governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar during his visit to the country, discussed with the Minister of National Education, Republic of Turkey on the need to enter into the partnership with the state on education.

Professor Abubakar said due to rising population of the state, government alone could not cater fully for the education of the populace.

“The 15-40 year old constitute over 60% of our population in Kano, so the demography is such that we have huge population of the very young which is exceptionally challenging,” he stressed.

Professor Hafiz maintained that the state had about 6,700 primary schools with enrolment of three million children as well as three million out of school children that need to be adequately educated.

Responding, the Minister for National Education Republic of Turkey, represented by the Head in charge of the cooperation Miss Sennur Cetin, assured the deputy governor of cooperation by the Turkey government, saying a vocational training centre would be established in the state.

Meanwhile, Professor Abubakar met with students from Kano and the management of their respective universities in Cyprus and Turkey where he discussed issues relating to their studies.
