As part of the move, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, received in audience the Ambassador of Turkiye to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mehmet Poroy, on Wednesday, 4th February 2026.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on Thursday, the visit was to build on gains made during President Tinubu’s visit to Ankara, Türkiye, in January.

The Turkish Ambassador, in his remarks, appreciated the excellent coordination from the Nigerian side to make the state visit a success.

He buttressed the fact that the visit by the Nigerian President to Türkiye has deepened relations between both countries as strategic partners and looks forward to the implementation of the decisions reached by the leaders of both countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his response, affirmed that the state visit was historic as anticipated and has created a new chapter in Nigeria and Türkiye relations.

Speaking further, the Minister commended the signing of nine landmark agreements during the state visit for the benefit of the government and people of both countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also used the opportunity to call for collaboration in the area of training opportunities, especially the strong partnership between the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy in Ijanikin, Lagos and the Turkish Diplomatic Institute.
