A media firm, Sunnah Global Media, the proprietor of Sunnah Television, in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has trained religious leaders, traditional rulers and 35 youths and women groups in Bauchi State on dispute resolution and conflict management as part of efforts to ensure that peace prevails in the Northeast region.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the three-day workshop yesterday in Bauchi, the representative of the NEDC, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed Bashir, said that the commission was ever ready to fund any organisation willing to execute a project that could promote peace in the region.
He lauded the media house for organising the training, saying it is timely,
“The theme of the workshop which is alternative dispute resolution and conflict management for religious and community leaders in the north east is very relevant. I urge the participants to pay attention to what they would be taught and train others.”
In his remark, the Director General of the Sunnah Global Media, Dr Ibrahim Disina, said that both Muslim and Christian clerics were invited to participate in the training, noting that some of the issues to be discussed include bad ideologies that led to terrorism, human rights, and family conflicts, with a view to preventing the citizens from indulging in things that would cause chaos in the society.
According to him, the religious, community leaders and other participants would be trained so that they can step it down to others. “After Bauchi, we will move to Gombe State for the same programme. It is aimed at training them on how to prevent and manage conflicts.”
Also speaking at the event, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Lawal Tanko Jimeta, represented by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Yakubu, said the police would do their best to ensure that peace prevails in the region.
