Two persons were arraigned before Kano magistrate court over alleged torture of three teenagers.

The accused, Umar Garba of Garun-Malam local government area, Kano state, and Idris Umar of Zaria local government area, Kaduna state were charged for criminal conspiracy, defamation of character, and given false information.

The offences were contrary to Sections 97,391,153 of the Penal Code Law, the prosecutor, Sani Musa told the court.
The court also heard that the accused were reported to the police via a petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone One Headquarters, Kano.

The prosecutor informed the court that the accused criminally conspired with Tasi’u Sulaiman presented themselves as policemen attached to SARS office and illegally arrested and tortured three teenagers, Ibrahim Umar, Bello Yahaya, and Bello Umar all of Bebeji local government, Kano state.

“The accused also took the teenagers to the SARS office at Kano Police Command and reported false information to the police that they (teenagers) are armed robbers.

“However, during the course of investigation it was discovered that the children were innocent,” the prosecutor said.

When the charge sheet was read to them, the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

In view of their plea, the presiding Judge, Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Khalil Mahmoud ordered for the remand of the accused persons in police custody and adjourned the case to February 28.
