Mustapha Yunus, a youth from Bama said the two that fled are well known sect members. “So when we sighted them [in Bama] we went after them,” he said. According to him, one of them was arrested but the other escaped. “After interrogation, the one that was arrested confessed that they fled from Sambisa because of threats, while the other one fled out of fear he’d be killed without opportunity to explain their exit from their enclave,” he said.
Yunus said the apprehended insurgent also confessed that many of his colleagues were executed when they showed reluctance to fight. He denied that they were not in Bama for espionage or any sinister motive but to repent. The youths in Bama restrained themselves from lynching him and handed him over to military troops in the area.
In a related development, a joint operation between troops from the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri and youth vigilantes, also known as ‘Civilian JTF’ yesterday arrested a Boko Haram kingpin in Dalwa village of Damboa local government area of the state.
Bello Danbatta, spokesman of the youths, confirmed the development. He said the arrestwas carried out after receiving information of a planned attack on Dalwa by Boko Haram fighters. “But the attackers failed to come, so during an intensive search, a notorious kingpin who also serves as informant to the insurgents was arrested and a pick-up truck which he also uses to convey foodstuff to sect members was also recovered,” he said.
