Two jailed six months for stealing metal door

A Kano state Magistrate court sitting at Gyadi-Gyadi has sentenced two young men, Muhammad M. Mashe and Abubakar Idris to six months imprisonment for stealing a metal door.

The accused persons all of Farawa Quarters Kano were arraigned for one-count charge of theft contrary to Section 278 of the Penal Code Law.

The Prosecution Officer, Inspector Sule Isah told the court that the defendants were arrested on Saturday February 10, 2018 by one Auwalu Abbas, a member of Farawa vigilante group.

“The defendants were arrested in possession of a new metal door suspected to be stolen from somewhere. They both confessed to have committed the offence during interrogation at Mariri police station,” he told the court.

When the charge sheet was read to them, the accused persons pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft leveled against them.

In his ruling, the presiding Judge, Chief Magistrate Fatihu Yassar, sentenced them to six months jail term or pay a fine of N10, 000 each.
