Two Nigerians win scholarship to study in Korea

The finals featured five public schools in the capital, which have emerged from the previous round of competition.  The schools were GGSS Abaji, GSS Rubochi, GSS Tunga Maje, GSS Kubwa and GSS Nyanya.

After five rounds of questions focusing largely on Korea, it’s culture, politics and economy, GSS Nyanya emerged winners with a total of 58. 5 points, beating GGSS Abaji into second place with 47 points, while GSS Rubochi completed the podium with 45 points.

The scholarship awards went to GSS Nyanya and GSS Abaji. The two schools are now expected to present a candidate each, preferably among the contestants, who have the basic requirements for university admission.

Speaking earlier, the FCT Education Secretary, Alhaji Aminu Usman expressed delight over the initiative by the Korean Cultural Centre to improve the education standing of Nigerians and hoped the beneficiaries of the scheme will take full advantage of the opportunity.

On his part, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Mr. Suh Joeng Sun said the quiz was organised in a bid to build on the strong cultural ties between the two countries and to promote understanding between the citizens. He promised to make efforts to sustain the competition and make it an annual event.

Scholarship certificates and award plaques were presented to the two top schools, while all the other participants went away with consolation prizes.
