The police in Ogun State have arrested two teenagers for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the state.
The two suspects, Abiodun Ishola, 19 and Kehinde Oloyede, 18, were arrested on April 28 following a complaint from the victim.
The victim reported that she was a hairdressing apprentice and that she was going to her boss’ shop, but unknown to her there was environmental sanitation exercise going on when she was accosted by the suspects.
The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that the victim said “Ishola who was sitting in front of his father’s house informed her of the restriction of movement and asked her to come and stay in their house pending when the exercise will last.
“While she was staying with Ishola, he stylishly took her bag inside and when she wanted to leave, he told her to go and pick her bag from inside, not knowing that he had sent for his friend Oloyede who later joined him and they both forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
“It was her screaming that attracted people who eventually rescued her.”
The police spokesman added that “Upon the report, the DPO Obantoko Division, SP Veronica Osakwe-led detectives to the scene where Ishola was arrested, and his arrest led to the eventual arrest of his accomplice, Oloyede.
“On interrogation they both confessed to the commission of the crime.”
Oyeyemi said the victim was taken to the General Hospital, Ijaiye for medical examination.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the two suspects be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
