Two persons, 35-year-old Osewa Kayode and Suleiman Ishola, 40, have been docked before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court for alleged theft of four kegs of diesel.
The defendants are standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and receiving stolen property.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, briefed the court yesterday that the defendants committed the offence on February 22, 2020 at about 8pm in Ilawe-Ekiti.
Leranmo alleged that Kayode and one other person at large stole the four kegs of diesel, valued at N129,000, property of Pyramid Consult Nigeria Limited.
The prosecutor also alleged that Ishola unlawfully received four kegs of diesel suspected to have been stolen.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the first defendant, Mr Olorundare Oyedele, and that of the second, Mr Emmanuel Sumonu, both urged the court to grant their clients bail with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Adefunmike Anoma, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N10,000, with one surety each in like sum, and adjourned the case till March 26, 2020 for hearing.
