Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State
Two members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have sued the state governor, Simon Lalong and 16 of their colleagues over what they described as illegal impeachment of Ayuba Abok as speaker of the parliament.
The lawmakers; Gwottson Fom (Jos South) and Tyem Pirfa Jinfa (Langtang North), in the suit faulted the ousting of Abok as the speaker.
The removal of Abok and emergence of Yakubu Sanda as speaker had created crisis in the parliament.
In an originating summons, PLD/J 585/2021, the plaintiffs are asking the court to nullify the sitting of the House of October 28, 2021, when Abok was impeached. They claimed that the impeachment was carried out by less than 2/3 of the lawmakers.
