Two pupils, Okada Rider crushed to death in Kogi

An articulated vehicle on Thursday crushed two pupils and a commercial motorcycle rider, popularly known as Okada to death at Zango-Daji area of Lokoja in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Daily Trust learnt the incident occurred in the early hours of the day when pupils were resuming in the school in the area.

An eyewitness stated that the accident occurred at the bad portion of the road while the okada rider conveying the two pupils to school was trying to negotiate out of a porthole but suddenly fell into the lane of a moving truck.

According to the eyewitness, the truck crushed the bike rider and his two passengers to death on the spot.

Thereafter, angry youths rushed to the place and made an attempt to set the the truck ablaze, but were prevented by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agents.

Daily trust gathered further that protesting youth blocked the road for hours, preventing other road users from plying the route for the better part of the day, leading to traffic gridlock.

When Contacted, the Kogi Police Command’s Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO), SP William Ovye-Aya, confirmed the incident, saying that the command has commenced investigation into the cause of the accident.

Also, the Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in the state, Mr Stephen Dawulung, stated that his men had deposited the corpses of the victims at Federal Medical Centre mortuary in Lokoja.
