General Danjuma spoke in Kano in an interview with reporters shortly after commissioning one of three multibillion naira mega cities (Kwankwasiyya city), built by the state government.
The trio of Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, leader, Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force; Victor Ben Ebikabowei, aka, Boy Loaf and Government Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo issued the war threat in Yenagoa,  Bayelsa last Friday.
Their meeting, which took place at the Government House Yenagoa, was attended by Governor Seriake Dickson, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, as well as chairman of Amnesty Implementation Committee, Kingsley Kuku and President General of Ijaw Youth Council Udengs Eradiri.
Reacting to the threat of the ex-militants during the interview at the North West University, the retired General said the ex-militants should be punished for the unguarded utterances.
He said the statements were provocative and inflammatory adding that the unity of Nigeria cannot be negotiated.
“The statements were very reckless coming from irresponsible individuals and they should be condemned, in fact they should be arrested,” he said.
He urged politicians to desist from making inflammatory statements, saying they have a key role to play in uniting the country together.
“Politicians should be wary of their provocative and inflammatory statements while campaigning in this crucial time of the general election. Campaigns should be issue-based, not attacking individuals,” he said.  
The former militants had said that the President’s victory in the election is not negotiable and should Jonathan lose, it would be seen as a direct attack on the Ijaw nation. They threatened to unleash violence on the country and take back Niger Delta oil.
In his speech, Dokubo-Asari deplored the alleged intimidation being meted to the Ijaw nation.
He predicted that the President would win re-election but asked them to be ready for the battle ahead.
“For every Goliath, God created a David. For every Pharoah, there is a Moses. “We are going to war. Everyone of you should go and fortify yourself,’’ he said.
On his part, Boyloaf condemned the attack on President Jonathan in some states in the north, saying nobody has the monopoly of violence.
He said there is nothing like one Nigeria, pointing out that oil is the only thing binding Nigeria’s diverse nationalities together.
He said if the north takes back power, the people of the Niger Delta region would take their oil back.
He called for unity of purpose saying, “Keep grudges and sentiments apart; we are ready to match them bumper to bumper.”
In his remark, Governor Dickson thanked the former militant leaders for their resolve to back the re-election of President Jonathan with greater vigour and assured them that he would relate their position to the President.
Earlier, while commissioning the project, Gen Danjuma had decried lack of continuity in governance in the country which he said had been hindering development.
“We don’t have continuity, within one government, when there are changes of ministers successors normally abandon what they inherited. Successors abandon what they inherit, my prayer is that whoever is going to succeed you (Kwankwaso) will continue with the very good work you have started,” he said.
In his remark, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said his decision to build the Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo cities was informed by the need to decongest Kano city, address the shortage of housing and reduce pressure on public infrastructure.
He said the construction of the three cities under the ‘Kano Mega City’ project has so far consumed up to N30 billion, adding that the government has already sold about 250 houses and 41 hectares of land to a Chinese company at the rate of N5 billion.
The governor said all the houses in the three cities might be sold by May, 2015.
