The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has flagged-off 2018 national personnel audit of all basic educational institutions in the country.

The Flagging-off ceremony of the 2018 national personnel audit of basic education institutions in Nigeria, was held in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, said the commission decided to embark on the audit because it is a key part of its mandate.

Bobboyi said that the audit provides the opportunity for a more comprehensive data gathering of all public and private basic education institutions.

According to him, it would provide baseline data required for proper educational planning in the sub-sector.

In his remark, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said that in 2006 and 2010 UBEC carried out two national personnel audit that focused only on public schools.

“I am delighted to inform you that the 2018 NPA will cover both public and private basic education institutions in the country”.

He described the occasion as a remarkable landmark towards realizing the resolute commitment of the present administration toward providing quality basic education for all.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman Governing Board of UBEC, Dr. Mahmud Muhammad, said one of the key strategic outcomes of national personnel audit was for the basic education sub-sector to have accurate and usable data for the purpose of education planning and development.

Muhammad said that the commission in collaboration with other stakeholders has been working tirelessly to ensure the realization of desired goals of 2018 national personnel audit.

According to him, this year’s audit has unique features which have broaden the scope and reliability of the data gathering exercise.

He said the audit covers basic education institutions in the country including privates one for the purpose of educational planning and human capital development.

He added that the second unique feature of the programme was to appreciate the role of information technology in the current exercise.
