The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, (UBEC), Dr Hamid Bobboyi, has disclosed that over N100 million is been spent on teacher training in each state of the federation annually.

He made this known during the second local workshop organized by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with the commission, in Abuja, on Monday.

Dr Bobboyi, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Dr. Yakubu Gambo, said the gesture was part of the commission’s effort at improving teacher quality.

He said KOICA had spent over N140 million on the construction of classrooms and provision of infrastructure in Adamawa and Kogi states in 2009. It also provided four comprehensive elementary schools in Adamawa and Gombe states.

In his remark, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Noh Kyu-duk, described KOICA workshop as a product of excellent cooperation between the Korean government and Nigeria since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1980.
