The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof Darlington Obaseki, has sought the federal government’s intervention in the area of employment health workers in order meet the growing influx of patients.

He made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, in Benin.

Prof Obaseki, who said that the hospital had 750 nurses complementing the doctors, noted that the number was grossly inadequate compared to the number of patients.

He explained that the hospital began as a 360-bed institution and had grown into a 900-bed centre, making it the second largest hospital in Nigeria.
