The University of Benin Teaching Hospital Staff Secondary School, Benin City, has won the Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) quiz competition for secondary schools in Edo and Delta states.

Daily Trust reports that six schools—Baptist High School, UBTH Staff Secondary School and Don Bosco Science Academy from Edo State and Marble Hill, Graceville College and Noble Academy from Delta State—made it to the final stage of the competition.

UBTH secondary school scored 45 points to defeat Don Bosco Science Academy and Marble Hill, which got 35 and 30 points, respectively, to emerge second and third.

Speaking during the event, LAPO Executive Director, Honestus Ayo Obadiora, said the annual competition, which started in 2006, was the organisation’s contribution towards the rejuvenation of the secondary education sector.

He said the competition was designed to promote healthy academic competition amongst secondary students, encouraging the spirit of excellence and building intellect, especially in the area of science subjects.

He said over 325 public and private secondary schools drawn from Edo and Delta states participated in the quiz competition.
