The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has lifted the ban on union activities in the school with the election of Students’ Union Government (SUG) held on September 3.
This is coming two years after the management suspended all union activities in the campus.
One student said with management’s declaration of Thursday 3rd September as lectures free day, students came out en mass and elected a new students union government.
 He said the electoral process started at 9:00am with the accreditation of students using ID cards and ended by 2:00am, and voting commenced.  Votes were counted immediately after the election. The result was announced by chairman of the electoral committee, Dr. Aminu Mode, at the Staff Common Room of Modern European Languages and Linguistics (MELL) department around 10:00pm.
Mode revealed that Umar Faruk, a 400-level student of Faculty of Law, emerged as the president with a total of 2,681 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Alfa Mustapha of the Faculty of Education who polled 2,357 votes.
Amina Yahaya emerged as the Vice President 1 with the total of 2,199 votes, Ahmad Sadik Batagarawa, Vice President 2 and AbdulRasheed Danladi Ibrahim, Secretary General.
Also Saifullahi Muhammad Rabi’u emerged as the Assistant Secretary General, Abubakar Yahuza Kurami Public Relations Officer 1 (PRO 1) Sahabi Kamaludeen (PRO 2) and Aliyu Zaharadeen, Financial Secretary.
Others are Surayyah Abubakar, Treasurer; Musa Kabir (Bebeji) Social Director; Muhammad Abdullahi Gusau, Director of Sports; Umar Mustapha, Director of Sales; Munir Mohammed Musa, Food Director; Abdullahi Umar, Director of Protocol and Abubakar Adamu Muhammad Welfare Director. Most students commended the process saying it was free and fair.
