UGANDA: Lawmaker fined for urinating in public

A Ugandan lawmaker has been fined by a court for urinating in public. A court in the capital Kampala asked Abraham Abiriga to pay 40,000 Ugandan shillings ($10) for creating a public nuisance by his action.

The MP has since settled the fine.

MP Abiriga in late September was pictured urinating near the gate of the Finance Ministry. A photo of him in the act went viral on social media leading to his arrest and charge before court.

The New Vision portal reports that the prosecution proved that Abiriga’s act was against Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) maintenance law and order ordinance, 2016.

At the time of the incident, he defended the act with the reason that he could not keep the urine in him, hence his action.
