The Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, H Edward Ubosi, have expressed support for the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees’ (NULGE) struggle for full autonomy in the on-going constitution amendment by the National Assembly.

Governor Ugwuanyi and Ubosi, gave their backing for local government autonomy during the NULGE south-east sensitization rally in favour of local government autonomy held in Enugu recently.

Speaking to  journalists in Abuja when he returned from the rally at the weekend, NULGE President, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel,  said both the governor and the speaker had thrown their weight behind local government autonomy and promised to vote for total freedom of local government when the time comes.

According to NULGE president, the governor said he would support NULGE in its quest to have local government autonomy because it is the best way to go adding that local government is the most important tier of government because it is the closest to the people.
