The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) on Thursday approved the reopening of the university for academic activities on June 20, after about six weeks closure over students’ protests.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, who chaired the Senate, said the university will reopen on June 20, while examinations will commence on July 4.
Professor Olayinka said the session will end around January 11, 2017 as against October 2016 in the original academic calendar meaning that “those who are supposed to graduate and do convocation this year will now have to wait till next year.”
The university was shut down on April 6, following protests over the suspension of a union leader by the students’ disciplinary committee as well as poor electricity and water supply.
