The University of Ibadan will host the eighth Afro-University 3-on-3 Basketball Championship qualifiers for the World University Games in Korea.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the championship qualifiers will be held from June 29 to July 1, at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan.
The competition will determine African university representatives for the International University Sports Federation Games, popularly known as FISU, scheduled for Korea.
A technical inspection team, led by Dr Alayode Ajibua of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, visited the venue ahead of the tournament.
Ajibua represented the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) during the inspection exercise conducted to assess preparations and facilities for the championship.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure that no stone is left unturned toward hosting successful qualifiers,” Ajibua stated.
He explained that the inspection focused on facilities, logistics, accommodation, security arrangements and technical requirements for participating universities and officials.
Ajibua said the visitation was necessary to encourage the Local Organising Committee to intensify preparations before the commencement of the competition.
“The essence of this high-powered visitation is to motivate the LOC to get fully prepared for a successful championship,” he said.
Other members of the inspection team included Prof. Muhammed Bawa of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and Prof. Rasheed Ojutiku of FUT Minna.
Also on the delegation was Mr Bola Orodele from the Nigerian University Games Association Secretariat, alongside Ousmane Ayinla representing Federation of African Universities and Kwara State University. (NAN)
