Ukraine has reassured that the friendly relationship with Nigeria will remain unchanged, adding that the president-elect, Volodomyr Zelenskiy, remained committed in keeping the ties between the two countries strong.

This was made known by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria, Mr. Valerii Aleksandruk in Abuja.

The 41-year old political novice Volodomyr Zelenskiy, emerged victorious against the incumbent president, Petro Poroshenko, winning 73.22% of the vote, in an election that was described by international observers as “fair, transparent and in line with all democratic standards.”

The President elect also reiterated his commitment in continuing the country’s political and economic reforms, most especially Ukraine’s integration in becoming a member of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The envoy also noted that Ukraine remained grateful for Nigeria’s support, and voting for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution of the five-year Russian aggression of Ukraine.

“Nigeria has also been a very keen ally in terms of education, and also, in military operations as well. Ukraine was one of the countries that provided weapons for the fight against Boko Haram. Nigeria has been a very good ally over the years, and will continue to be one,” the envoy said.
