A team from the United Nations Habitat has inspected some slums in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital with a view to recommending the state for its proposed new urban agenda pilot project.

Leader of the team, Dr Limota Goroso Giwa, said the UN Habitat was working towards mapping out 10 cities across Africa that will benefit from the project aimed at upgrading slums into model cities.

She said the visit was to ascertain the areas that needed  slum upgrading, the situation of slum dwellers and efforts of government to assist rural urban poor to secure decent housing.

“I was asked to only submit names of likely cities and communities in Africa that need international supports for slum upgrading and since I discussed with the Director of Habitat, Mrs Edna, she advised me to work with the Kogi State government”, she said.
