The United Nations Women over the weekend officially launched the quarterly zonal coordination mechanism meeting for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women for states in the North Central zone of Nigeria.
The coordination mechanism was co-created by UN Women, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women Development.

Speaking at the event in Abuja, Ms Beatrice Eyong, UN Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, underscored the need for critical stakeholders such as women networks, coalitions and thematic groups to work in synergy to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women (GEWE) across states in the country.
She revealed that “The idea behind the launch of the Quarterly Zonal Coordination Mechanism Meeting for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women for States was to promote coherence, accountability and sustainability in GEWE.”
