UN Women sensitises women on legal rights, gender equality

Plateau State women were, recently, sensitised about their legal rights, peace building and gender equality to enable them protect themselves against all forms of discrimination.
The UN Women, which funded the project alongside the European Union and the United Nations Entity, described women as integral part of nation building.
The Gender Technical Adviser on the Women, Peace and Security Programme of the UN Women, Sewuese Surma, in her opening remarks during the planning and orientation workshop with community-based women peace mentors at Lamonde Hotel, Jos, Plateau State, said that the workshop was organised to enlighten women on gender equality and legal rights.
She said that women were vulnerable to violence but due to insufficient knowledge about their rights, they always failed to fight their case.
She said that the workshop was intended to advance gender equality, calling for protection of women and children in conflict areas.
She tasked women to know their legal rights, urging them to speak when they were abused or violated.
