Four undergraduates in a tertiary institution in Osun State are at the Ilesa Prison for allegedly beating a sex worker in Ede over an argument on having sex without condom.

The accused persons, James Oluwaseun, Abdulah Olamide, Samuel Okoya and Isreal Babatunde, were remanded in prison last week following their arraignment before a magistrates’ court in the state.

It was gathered that one of the accused persons picked up the 30-year-old sex worker at Pavilion beer joint in Osogbo, the state capital, and took her to Ede, a neighbouring town.

It was also gathered that the sex worker, who is also housewife and mother of two, had an initial agreement of N5,000 with the accused before they left Osogbo.

When they got home, the accused was said to have insisted that he would have sex with the woman without condom, which she reportedly declined. This led to an argument and when the woman was leaving in the morning the following day, the accused was said to have refused to pay the lady since they did not have intercourse.

However, the lady insisted that she would collect the money since she spent the night and that not having sex was not her fault. This led to an argument and three other boys who are friends of the accused intervened.

In the process, the four men beat the woman over an allegation that she stole some documents in the house.

The matter was reported at the Ede ‘B’ Divisional Police Station where the four accused persons were detained.

The woman, it was gathered, was taken to a hospital for medical examination over an initial claim that she was gang-raped by the accused persons, but the medical report indicated that she was not raped by the boys and that they only beat her.

The police eventually charged the accused persons to court.

The Magistrate, A.A Olowolagba, was said to have granted bail to the accused but that they were taken to prison when they could not meet their bail conditions.
