There’s an uneasy calm in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State over a feud between the Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, and the Waziri, Alhaji Muhammadu Badamasi.
Sources close to the palace informed our correspondent that there have been rumblings within the palace for some time but matters got to a head at the beginning of the week, when the Emir confronted the Waziri over an errand that was to be delivered on his behalf but the Waziri was said to have responded curtly.
The Waziri who according to sources could not hold back when the Emir upbraided him was said to have responded, making the emir to be infuriated to the point of standing from his throne and walking towards the Waziri which degenerated to a physical combat.
The emir was said to have seen the Waziri’s reaction as a threat and reported the matter to the police.
Acting on the report, the police made to arrest the Waziri the very evening but he told them that the customary laws precludes him from being arrested in the evening and that he would report at the police station the next day.
Reliable police sources in Jos confirmed to our correspondent that the matter has been reported to the police and they have concluded their investigations and have have filed the matter in court.
Sources in Wase traced the fracas to a long-standing dispute and disagreement between the two.
Efforts to speak with the acting spokesperson of the palace, Abubakar Dalhatu, were unsuccessful as his lines were not going.
The police public relations officer, DSP Alabo Alfred could also not be reached for comments.
