The Director General of National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Mallam Abubakar Mohammed has said there is need to promote the non-oil sectors of the economy for the country to generate employment for the unemployed Nigerians.
Speaking at an NDE Senior Management Forum  with the theme: “Repositioning NDE for 2016 and beyond” held in Abuja, he said in the last eight years, the directorate has complemented the micro economic policies of government through various schemes and have been able to recruit about 15000 persons nationwide.
He said, “Over the years, the NDE has been engaged in the fight against mass unemployment through the instrumentality of skills acquisition in vocational, agricultural and entrepreneurial skills as well as activities in the public sector and the provision of transient job opportunities.  The efforts of the Directorate no doubt have yielded remarkable dividends. However, the ever changing forms and patterns of unemployment make it necessary for us in the NDE to constantly review our strategies and think outside the box in order to remain relevant and accomplish our mandate as an intervention agency of the federal government.”
He said paucity of funding has been a challenge in the directorate efforts of providing more job opportunities for Nigerians, stressing that solid minerals, agriculture, tourism and infrastructures should be strengthened to boost job creations across the country.
