As part of measures to tackle unemployment, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) under The Everlasting Arm Parish (TEAP) has empowered its teenagers through trainings in career advancement.
The event was part of its annual TEENS Career Conference, organised by TEAP Zone in Abuja on Sunday, which brought various experts and successful businessmen and women to tutor the youths and share their experiences with them on how to deal challenges of life.
One of speakers and a business development expert, Mr. Chinedu Azodoh, told the teenagers that a lot of new opportunities are out there waiting to be tapped.
According to him, though the COVID-19 pandemic has imposed some restrictions on life and businesses, the epidemic has also thrown up new innovative and highly rewarding opportunities around the world.
For instance, he said, those who have the requisite knowledge and skills do not need to be physically in a place to be able work and earn good money.
He explained that the modern communication technology has availed many people the opportunity of securing jobs and carrying out their duties in faraway countries without physically being there since the COVID-19 has brought about the idea of people working from their homes.
“A lot of the young people can take up one pursuit or the other in their life time depending on their capacities and preferences. For me, the goal is to challenge the students to be able to realize their goals in life. This is not just on entrepreneurship but about teaching them to be more resilient tackling challenges in today’s world,” he said.
He also said that access to start-up capital is very critical to growth new businesses.
Azodoh said that the federal government is doing wonderfully well at the grassroot level, with what the Bank of Industry (BOI) is doing in terms of rolling out capital for the development of small-scale businesses in the country.
Another speaker, Mrs. Omowale David Ashiru, who is the Group Managing Director of New Globe Education, explained the power of having dreams of a great future and working diligently to realize them.
Using her personal experiences, Mrs. Ashiru said she was only three years old when she lost her father.
According to her, the loss of her father who was the breadwinner for the family left them to face serious challenges and forced her mother to become the sole breadwinner and thus the emerged successful afterwards.
On his part, the Chairman, THISDAY’s Editorial Board, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, who coordinates the conference, said the aim of the exercise was to imbibe some of the right skills and attitude among our younger elements so they can make the right decisions as they grow.
