The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has distributed food and materials to Cameroonians and Nigerians stranded at the Nigeria-Cameroon border communities of Ikom and Etung LGAs of Cross River State

It is estimated that about 5,000 asylum seeking Cameroonians and some Nigerians have been stranded since the closure of the Cameroonian side of the borders since 28 September following rising sociopolitical tension in Southern Cameroon over separatist moves to actualise Ambazonian Republic.

The chief executive officer of RHEMA care who is also the implementing partner for UNHCR, Mr Eric Shu said that the distribution of the relief items was systematically done to ensure that all the asylum seekers benefitted.

He said that the exercise would also be carried out in Amana, the Obudu Mountain Ranch in Obanliku, Danare in Boki, Ikom and Ajassor in Etung local government areas.
