Kindly grant me the privilege, on behalf of my colleagues, to use this platform to appeal to authorities at the University of Abuja to intervene in the case of our delayed graduation after having completed our B. Sc. Political Science course at the Center for Distance Learning (CDL) programme.
It is over a year now since we wrote our final 500 level examinations. Unfortunately, the results of all B. Sc. Political Science students of the 2007 set under the CDL programme are yet to be processed, let alone approved; even though students of other courses from other departments of the same 2007 set under the CDL programme have since collected their results.
We were reliably informed at the CDL that our results are been delayed because the lecturer in charge of processing the results has refused to process our results. All our pleas through the authorities concerned including the CDL and the department of political science have failed to touch the heart of the lecturer concerned whose name was given as Dr Ben.
Sometime last year, we sent a delegation of some of us to the vice chancellor Prof Michael Adikwu who promised to ensure that our results were made ready within two weeks. This promise is yet to see the light of the day. There are insinuations that the vice chancellor is finding it difficult to talk to Dr Ben on the matter because he is also the chairman of the Uni-Abuja branch of ASUU.
It is very unfair for our graduation to be stalled for this long for no offence of ours. Another set has since written its final examinations after ours. Some of us need this result for promotion; having reached the bar allowed for our existing qualifications. Others need it to seek employment. Those who died since we wrote our final examinations have been denied the joy of being graduates. This is a passionate appeal to University Abuja authorities so that we can graduate and be part of the convocation ceremony planned to be held soon.
