UniAbuja VC to launch 3 books

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah

The vice chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, will on Wednesday launch his three books: Seriya, Omokewu and Yoruba Oral Tradition in Islamic Nigeria, a History of Dàdàkúàdá.

Both plays, Seriya and Omokewu, reflect the communal philosophy, discipline and local upbringing of the playwright, and draw on the need to build a valid future for subsequent generations.

The Yoruba Oral Tradition locates the oral performance of Dàdàkúàdá genre of music within the Islamic Yoruba setting and helps to fuse tradition, creativity and politics, thereby asserting the significance of the form.

A statement Sunday by the spokesman of the university, Dr Habib Yakoob, said the launching would be chaired by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, at the main campus of the university.

The statement said the author, a professor of Comparative Literature, had authored over 25 books, chapters in books, and several scholarly works.

“He is a reviewer for several national and international journals; and has published in reputable peer-reviewed journals as well as supervised several PhD candidates.

“Prof. Na’Allah is also a well-travelled academic who has attended over 50 conferences within the country and abroad, despite his busy schedule as vice chancellor of the University of Abuja, he still finds time to write books,” the statement said.
