The United Nation Children’s Funds, (UNICEF), has carried out sensitization campaigns on HIV/AIDS for students in private schools.
Speaking during the campaign at FUNTAJ International School Limited, Abuja, the UNICEF representative, Ibilola Olayinka, said the immune system protects the body against infections and it was the natural way to keep the body healthy and fight germs that want to attack the body.
She explained that when the HIV attacks, the wall of protection begins to breakdown little by little until the immune system is destroyed.
She said that HIV cannot spread through mosquito bites, shaking hands, playing together, sharing cups and plates, sharing toilets, bathrooms or swimming pools.
She however, noted that some of the ways to avoid HIV include, avoiding sex before marriage, ensuring that blood is tasted before transfusion, avoiding sharing needles or other shape objects, going for counselling and testing to know your HIV status.
Some of the students of FUNTAJ International School Limited expressed delight over the gesture and thanked UNICEF for educating them on HIV/AIDS disease.
