The University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA), Abuja chapter, has brought succour to residents of Peace Village, Lugbe, after donating a borehole to the community’s mosque. 

Speaking at the commissioning and inspection of the project, the team lead of UMA, Alhaji Aliu Akosile, said the project was part of efforts to support Muslim communities in the FCT.

Akọsilẹ said providing water to a community is one of many ways to earn a continuous reward from Allah.

He said, “We want to ensure we support dawah by providing support to Muslim organisations, Muslim communities and institutions. 

“We want to join you to give thanks to Allah. As Muslims what we have done is in the advancement of Allah’s commandments to give charity and water is one of the most important ones.”

He added that the borehole aimed to serve not just the Muslims and the mosque but also the entire community. 

He said the use of the borehole by non-Muslims could serve as a catalyst for their appreciation of Islam and possibly embrace the Islamic faith. 

“We never know, someday, a lot of non-Muslims in the community will accept Islam because of this. That is the kind of spirit that we should encourage ourselves,” he said. 

The imam of the community’s mosque, Abdullateef Salau, thanked UMA for the kind gesture and promised that the borehole would be used judiciously.
