The University of Maiduguri campus radio station called UNIMAID Radio has commenced test transmission after obtaining a temporary license from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The station, which operates on 97.5 Frequency Modulation and has Kanem FM as its Station ID is headed by Professor Danjuma Gambo of the Department of Mass Communication.
The university had struggled for years before the NBC granted it the license to operate campus radio station which is mainly for educational purposes where students, especially from mass communication department, would learn the art of journalism.
With license granted to Kanem FM, NBC had approved over 28 campus radio stations in Nigeria with University of Lagos Radio Station (Unilag Radio) as the pioneer station which secured its campus broadcast license in 2002.
